SIDELINED Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams has lashed St Kilda's Justin Koschitzke for an ugly off the ball incident in the Magpies' 26-point win.

The underdog Saints produced one of their most admirable efforts of the season despite losing Sam Gilbert a serious-looking knee injury and Lenny Hayes to a calf problem in the warm-up.

The Saints closed to within 14 points of an off-key Collingwood when inspirational captain Nick Riewoldt kicked consecutive long goals midway through the last quarter.

But Travis Cloke sealed a far from convincing Collingwood victory with a massive last quarter, kicking three late goals including a tight-angled set shot from the boundary.

Koschitzke, 30, faces suspension from the match review panel after delivering a high elbow to the left side of Jamie Elliott's head, levelling the Pies' livewire behind play nearing halftime.

While Collingwood's on-field leaders remonstrated with Koschitzke throughout the game, Beams made his feelings clear on Twitter.

"Fairly weak that by Justin Koschitzke #Cyalater," Beams tweeted.

Pies' trio Heath Shaw, Scott Pendlebury and Dale Thomas, in a return to form in his fourth game back from ankle surgery, helped steer the Pies to victory but it was a frustrating night for Nathan Buckley's men.

Gilbert may need an extended break after he was carried from the field by trainers. Early reports suggested the Saints' line-breaker hurt his medial or anterior cruciate ligament. He finished the night on crutches.

The win stretched the Pies' unbeaten streak over the Saints to seven games, dating back to April 2010.

St Kilda will be encouraged by the performances of its youngsters Seb Ross, Josh Saunders and Nathan Wright but their finals hopes were dealt another blow, at 1-5.

Collingwood confront a tough three weeks facing Fremantle, Geelong and Sydney.
