BRISBANE co-captain Jonathan Brown says the last thing the Lions should do in response to the humiliating 68-point loss to the Western Bulldogs last Saturday is drop their heads.
Brown said the Lions needed to quickly pick up the pieces from the Etihad Stadium slaughter for Saturday's crucial clash with Adelaide at the Gabba.
The Crows will be smarting from their Round 1 loss to Essendon and have had an extra week to prepare for Round 2.
Adelaide will also be looking to make amends for a surprise loss to the Lions at the Gabba late last season, so Brisbane will need to improve considerably from their woefully inept display against the Bulldogs to be any hope of avoiding a 0-2 start to the season.
It will help that Brisbane's Pearce Hanley can take a plea and avoid suspension after being charged with rough conduct for an incident involving Bulldog Daniel Giansiracusa.
Hanley can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
Brown said the Lions could not afford to lick their wounds for too long.
"There's no doubts that this was a massive wake-up call for the playing group,'' Brown said.
"But we've got to be really careful now because the last thing we want to do is drop our heads.
We can't be throwing the baby out with the bath water after Round 1.
"I'm very confident we can be very competitive against Adelaide if we return to the way we trained and played over the pre-season. We've made a hell of a lot of ground since the end of last year and in the pre-season. We've got the evidence that things are starting to come together for us but those things clearly didn't work against the Bulldogs.
Brown said there were no excuses for Brisbane's thrashing as they failed to execute basic fundamentals under tremendous pressure from the Bulldogs.
