PORT Adelaide midfielder Hamish Hartlett has embraced the attention of taggers as the Power continues its revival under coach Ken Hinkley.

Hartlett, one of Port's most damaging midfielders, is beginning to challenge Travis Boak as the obvious player for opposition clubs to run with.

As one assistant coach from another club said: "If it's just for weight of numbers and consistency, you go to Boak, but if it's about the most damaging possessions, you'll consider going to Hartlett.''

Hartlett, who is about to chalk up 50 games after five injury-interrupted seasons, is happy to take the tag because it frees up others.

"It's been interesting; the last two weeks in particular I've had a little bit of attention, which has been great,'' Hartlett said. "It gives us the opportunity to free up guys like Boaky and Brad (Ebert).

"If we can have a multitude of guys that are playing really well through the midfield it makes it difficult for the opposition to shut us down.

"If they come to me, I've got no worries about that. Boak will (then) have a great influence and vice versa.''

At 22, Hartlett feels stronger after a testing pre-season and is delivering on his vast promise.

He credits fitness coach Darren Burgess for much of his success after a thorough pre-season.

"I've had some up and downs, which everybody experiences but have been a little bit more consistent recently,'' Hartlett said. "Hopefully the next 50 come around a bit quicker.

"Within the last six months, since the pre-season started, everything that's been involved with the club has been really positive.

"It's certainly been a great place to be around and now that we've strung a few wins together ... there's no better feeling around a footy club than after a win.''
