BRENTON Sanderson says Adelaide is poised to have a new cult figure.

And he hasn't even played an AFL game.

Second-year utility Cameron Ellis-Yolmen has been so impressive this pre-season that he has drawn comparisons to a young Adam Goodes.

And Crows coach Sanderson says he "should" debut and showcase his wide range of skills this year.

"He's one that we'll look to at some point in the season," Sanderson said of the athletic 20-year-old.

"He's still quite raw and he's probably not in out best 22 right at the moment but he's an exciting young talent.

"He's just a real natural.

"He's very raw but his raw stuff is exciting and I think he's going to be a bit of a cult figure for our fans at some point."

The Crows don't lack for cult figures with key forward Taylor Walker and dynamic midfielder Patrick Dangerfield among the two most marketable players in the AFL.

Sanderson says he intends to use Ellis-Yolmen - who has only played eight league games for Woodville-West Torrens after being selected at pick 64 at the 2011 national draft - across half-back.

He said comparisons could be made with dual Sydney Brownlow Medallist Goodes because of his "great athleticism"

At 188cm and 89kg, Ellis-Yolmen is a similar size and moves around the field with similar grace.

"There's a bit of Goodes there," said Sanderson.

"He's very laconic the way he sort of plays and trains and nothing seems to faze him too much.

"And he can play anywhere.

"He can be a tall midfielder like Goodes and also go forward to take a mark.

"But we're still trying to find out his best position. At the moment we're experimenting with him across half-back.

"Where we play him will be a little bit determined by where the Eagles play him at SANFL level but at the moment I like him as a third tall defender."

Ellis-Yolmen, who is of Aboriginal and Papua New Guinea descent, missed 2010 after undergoing a knee reconstruction but has slowly recaptured the spring and excitement which were his hallmarks as a junior.

The man who lists Crows great Andrew McLeod as his favourite player and is nicknamed "Curly" because of his hair has muscled up this off-season and cuts an impressive figure on the training track.

Sanderson believes the club has found a diamond in the rough but that it needs polishing.

"I still see some things that I still don't like and I'm trying to get out of his game," he said of Ellis-Yolmen.

"He does switch off and wander off a little bit and you've got to concentrate for 120 minutes at this level.

"And he'll take a fantastic mark but then he'll turn the ball over by foot or he'll miss a tackle, which are things we're trying to get out of his game.

"He's a work in progress but he'll be a good player for us."
