PORT Adelaide says it has "no issues" with its highly-paid fitness guru Darren Burgess being appointed to help Adelaide United find its next A-League coach.
Football operations manager Peter Rohde said Burgess - back as fitness coach of the Power this year after stints with the Socceroos and English Premier League giant Liverpool - asked the club's permission to sit on a Reds panel of soccer experts.
Rohde said Burgess guaranteed Port his role with United would not be too time-consuming or be a conflict of interest as he strives to improve the Power's fitness program.
"He has spoken to us about it, and we told him as long as it doesn't interfere with his footy commitments, we've got no problem with him doing it," Rohde said.
"We are always happy to see someone contribute to something like that. The key was that it had to fit around his commitments to us, which he assured us it would.
"People go and do things outside of clubs all the time, such as attend conferences, but ... we know we are going to get a helluva lot of work out of Burgo."
The highly-rated Burgess was sought by Adelaide United for his soccer expertise after working with the Socceroos in the build-up to the 2010 World Cup and then spending the next two years as Liverpool's head of fitness and conditioning.
He was previously at Port from 2005-07, helping mastermind the club's charge to the 2007 grand final.
