AT least a quarter of international sport is influenced by the underworld in an explosive admission from the World Anti-Doping Authority.

And the greatest threat is on Australia's doorstep with WADA chiefs declaring 99 per cent of the raw material in performance-enhancing drugs originates in China.

The AFL has warned clubs crime figures and the availability of illegal substances were posing an increasing risk to the game as part of last weekend's Australian Crime Commission findings.

While Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has called on league heavyweights to provide details of alleged drug use, the world's top doping authority yesterday dropped another bombshell with allegations of wide-spread sporting corruption across the globe.

WADA director general David Howman said more than 25 per cent of international sport was controlled "to one degree or another" by the underworld.

"I am making this statement on information I have received, this is not a guess, it's probably even higher," Howman said.

"And as we go on, I think you will see that increase. That's a concern, because that hits at the heart and the integrity of sport that we have grown up with."

He said the connection between unregulated substances and crime figures was undeniable.

"The black markets supply a lot of pharmaceutical products before they are out on the white market. That's run by the criminal underworld, so a lot of the pharmaceutical stuff comes out in that way," he said.

"It's the same bad guys, we know this because we have been involved in investigations and involved with people who are in this area on a daily basis.

"It's the same bad guys pushing the drugs, laundering their money through ... betting, bribery and corruption."

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority is investigating Essendon and one player from another club for alleged performance-enhancing drug use.

While it remains unclear what substances were at the centre of the Essendon scandal, there was an increasing supply of banned substances coming here from China.

"Ninety-nine per cent of the raw materials that are used through the internet to make up in your kitchen or your backyard laboratory are emanating from China," Howman said.

"They are going to gangs who then put them together in little plastic capsules and are sold on the street or in the gyms."

What do you think of the ACC report and its effect on the NRL and AFL? Who's to blame? Will you still support your team? Do you think players are clean?
