CHAD Wingard has taken just the first four games of the season to elevate his game to a new level.
The teenager has been outstanding with his forward pressure and shows a cool head with the footy, particularly around goal.
After playing 19 games in his debut season last year, Wingard is showing the class - and party tricks such as Saturday night's impossible left-foot goal from the boundary - which made him a first-round draft pick.
The improvement is obvious. In his first season he averaged 12 disposals and kicked a total of nine goals as the Power won a grand total of five games.
Already this year Wingard is averaging 20 disposals and has booted 10 goals as the Power sits second on the ladder with a 4-0 record.
Like the rest of the rejuvenated team under new coach Ken Hinkley, Wingard is clearly enjoying himself.
"Of course I am, we're winning," the 19-year-old said.
"I'm finding it (consistency) easier this year, I think it comes with experience and a bit of confidence, so hopefully I can keep it up and as a team we can keep improving week by week.
"We know we're having a good run but we know where we're at."
Wingard said Hinkley's honest assessment of his performances helped him become a better player.
"Kenny has been really honest with me. He doesn't pump your tyres up too much and tells you how it is," he said.
"And Ken has helped me with my growth as a player and a person so I couldn't ask for much more."
What Port fans are asking is if Wingard is delivering this at age 19 and 23 games, how good will he be in five years' time?
