THE best SuperCoach tips including who's hot and who's not and best captain picks. Everything you need to give your team the edge.

IT'S a good thing cows sleep on average for just four hours a day, because our herd of SuperCoach cash cattle has done some serious commuting lately.

From the sunny sands of Broadbeach two years ago to the 'Land of Falafel' – as Eddie liked to call it – west of Sydney last year, our favourite stock has been on the move again over summer.

Alberton is grazing headquarters in 2013, with a coat of teal sprinkled through the barn yard.

And come next week, milking season begins with the bargain-basement SuperCoach buys set to start raining dollars back into our fantasy bank accounts.

Port Adelaide's Round 1 side boasted a cluster of rookies too good to be ignored.

From Ollie Wines (125) to Jasper Pittard (93) to Campbell Heath (70) to Lewis Stevenson (66) to Jake Neade (57), they all delivered.

Even Kane Mitchell found his way off the rookie list and into the season-opener, albeit as the substitute.

And with Sam Colquhoun – fresh from a dazzling SANFL performance – in the Round 2 squad another gem looks on the way.

Admittedly, the Power kids don't carry the lofty tags of first-round picks or prized 17-year-old signings their Suns and Giants predecessors did, but that doesn't mean there isn't some serious talent up for grabs.

If you haven't splashed Ollie Wines into your starting midfield, do so instantly, while Pittard looks a safe defensive option you can start on the field.

Sprinkle your remaining rookies - Jack Viney, Brett Goodes and Brent Maccaffer  to name a few - around Ken Hinkley's clan and your cash cows should be ready to burst come mid-season upgrade season.

You've got until a player lines up in three matches to bring them in without missing on that first bumper price rise, so the time to act is in the lead-up to Rounds 2 and 3. Get mooooving.

LOCKOUT RULES

A rolling lockout is in effect this season, so fear not if your side needs some trading surgery. You only need to have your Saints and Tiges locked in by Friday night, with each club locked out once the ball is bounced in their Round 2 clash.

And that means you'll know the substitutes for each match before lockout. So, no excuses for having Jaeger O'Meara on your field if Guy McKenna hands him the vest at the Gabba.

CAPTAINS CORNER

Nominating the right captain - who will score double points for your side - is crucial to SuperCoach success. Here are some players to consider this week.

Gary Ablett (GC)
Does Gazza really need justifying? If you're in the 48 per cent of teams with the bald master, just lock him in. The 91 points he scored in the final quarter alone last week says it all.

Josh Kennedy (Syd)
The former Hawk finished last week with 147 points and is now set to line up against Gold Coast. A supreme pick. JPK also racked up the second-most coaches votes last week and ranked No. 1 in SuperCoach, but could manage only the sixth-best score in AFL Fantasy with 87. Kennedy's contested brilliance and efficiency is duly rewarded in SuperCoach, making him a safe option.

…and the knock

Scott Pendlebury (Coll)

Pendles is fresh from a monster Round 1 score and a hot Brownlow chance, but poses a bit of a risk this week in his 150th match. Against the Blues he was negated by Andrew Carrazzo last year, racking up just 10 disposals against him. If you've got another option, consider playing it safe and go with that this week.

JUMP ON

Each week we'll highlight players about to go up in value. Prices don't change until Round 3 but we can guarantee these guys are headed for a raise.

Jack Viney (Dees) $109,500 mid
Jack's brek-even is -173. Yep, he could kick it out on the full about 60 times and still not go down. You're going to lock in a huge price gain and given his job security at the Dees could not be safer don't hold off until he's on the bubble, get Jack in now.

Josh Kennedy (WC) $299,600 fwd
Back to full fitness, JK scored 109 in a Round 1 loss. And he only kicked two goals. Bound to be a bit up and down, but irresistible at that price tag. Lock him in as your fourth to sixth forward.

Bryce Gibbs (Blues) $509,800 def/mid
The No. 1 pick will be unleashed under Mick this year. He scored 150 to be Carlton's best last week and looms as a lock in defence. The dual-position status adds to the sexiness.

Other names to watch closely this weekend include Danyle Pearce, Hamish Hartlett, Tom Rockliff, Tom Liberatore, Michael Barlow and Andrew Swallow.

JUMP OFF

These are the players about to tumble in price - and ripe for trading. Again, you have until Round 3 to assess form but it might be time to pull the trigger already on these guys.

Billy Longer (BL) $280,300 ruck
Longer was taught a ruck lesson by Will Minson last week and paid the instant price, axed from the Lions' side. With No. 1 choice Matthew Leuenberger back, it could be tough for the high draft pick. Better options out there.

Jack Watts (Dees) $460,100 fwd/def
Surely can't go any worse than last week. Watts had a stinker, failing to take a mark playing in a backline which saw a ton of the ball. His price won't drop after this week, so you can get a free hit and go with him again, but another stinker and Jack will have to go.

Others stars urgently needing rapid improvements to avoid big price falls include Buddy Franklin, Paddy Dangerfield and Matthew Pavlich.

CRYSTAL BALL

Watch for David Zaharakis and Matthew Pavlich in the next month.

Pav had an injury-ravaged summer and was restricted to just 60 points in Round 1, meaning a price drop is imminent. Zaharakis, likewise, battled a quad injury during the NAB Cup and started the season in the green vest.

Both are set to become bargain forward options come about Round 6.
