SCOTT Thompson says he can't wait to play with young Crows teammate Brad Crouch.

Crouch's standout performance in the SANFL for West Adelaide last weekend has heightened expectation he'll debut in Brisbane on Saturday and Thompson is one who wouldn't mind to see it happen.

"I'm hoping we'll see him in the team real soon," Thompson said.

"After last week's performance he's put his name up for selection so it will be interesting to see which way they go."

Thompson - who believed Crouch could fill any number of roles for the Crows, including inside midfielder, wing or as a small forward - revealed it was the 19 year old's defensive work which may have seen him overlooked for round one.

"Defensively he can still get better, which comes with age," he said.

"As a young guy the teams that he's played in growing up he's been the dominant player ... so he's probably been able to play the game one way.

Where as this level you can't afford to be just an offensive player.

"That's one area of his game he's working on is the defensive stuff. No doubt he'll pick that up pretty quick being the bloke that he is.

"From the day he came to the club he was full of energy, wanted to ask questions from a lot of experienced players straight away, was harassing the coaches straight away trying to gain as much game knowledge in that first year when he wasn't able to play AFL footy.

"There's been a lot written about his game last week for West Adelaide. He's in good form. He's a natural footballer so he knows where to run, his running patterns are good.

"He's capable of playing a number of roles."
