ADELAIDE is being urged to use an in-your-face approach to avoid its first run of two losses under coach Brenton Sanderson.

Controlled aggression and a sense of urgency have been identified as a solution to speeding up the club's ball movement, forcing turnovers and remedying the club's tackling issue.

The Crows did much of their training behind locked doors yesterday and have begun to look forward to the match against Brisbane next weekend with the realisation spots in the team will come at a premium.

A string of players - including Brad Crouch, Shaun McKernan and Richard Tambling - will seek to use this week's round one of the local competition to force their way into the team.

At West Lakes, the emphasis will be on finding the hard edge the team was missing in round one.

Assistant coach Mark Bickley said the cornerstone of a recovery from round one would be how the game was approached.

"What I do know is that when you are feverish with you attitude and your intensity, it translates into the tackling pressure," he said.

"You look at Essendon ... they were in our face as soon as we got the ball and we weren't like that to them.

"That's something we've got to improve upon.

"I don't know what the reason is for that, but certainly it will be driven home that it has to happen the next time we play."

An increase in intensity would also assist ball movement as the Crows seek to recapture the free-flowing nature of their game that led to last season's revival.

"The easiest way to get fast ball movement is to turn the ball over from the opposition,"Bickley said.

"There are times in a game, whether it's a free kick or a mark, when you get held up, where I just thought we didn't have the urgency to want to move it quicker.

"In the past we've done that fairly well, and we've had an air of confidence where we've backed our kick.

"I think on the weekend we probably looked at losing that kick, then decided to be more conservative and move it a bit slower. I think you'll find that we'll endeavour to be a bit more urgent."

Magnets will crowd the board on selection night next week, with several players on the brink of pushing their way into the side.

It will add spice to this week's SANFL competition, where Crows players will be scrutinised closely.

"I think there's a number of guys we'll be looking at," Bickley said. "Ian Callinan, whether he can get himself fit, Sam Shaw, `Crouchy' ( Crouch) is another one.

"Richard Tambling has been in really good form after a slight back injury. There's a whole range of guys and most of those blokes get an opportunity to play in the SANFL this weekend.

"It's a fantastic thing for us."
