BRISBANE Lions skipper Jonathan Brown has taken young Suns forward Tom Lynch under his wing.

Lynch, who models his game on the three-time premiership star, sought out Brown for tips on playing centre half-forward and being a leader.

In the Gold Coast's first two years in the AFL, the 199cm, 99kg Lynch has emerged as a key figure and has been endorsed by skipper Gary Ablett as a leading candidate to take over the captaincy down the track.

Lynch sets the standard for workrate and competitiveness on field and even engaged in a wrestle with Brown in the second Q-Clash last year, one of the few willing moments of a game that lacked much spark.

One of the great centre half-forwards of his era, Brown is happy to talk to emerging key forwards.

He joked that as president of the CHF Guild, he was duty-bound to help in Lynch's development, even though he played for the Lions' near-city rivals.

"He's a likely type, he's going to be a good player for a long time to come but he's raw right now," Brown said.

"He's just got to keep working hard and keep developing. He's got to keep bringing that aggression to the table."
