BRENTON Sanderson carries left-handed golf clubs, but even he's not sure they're the right fit.

"Golf always seems to marry in with footy - most players are natural athletes so they can pick up a tennis racquet or golf club and they're really good at it. I'm not one of those guys," he joked.

"I really struggle. I'm a left hander, I don't know why. I might actually be a right hander."

The Adelaide coach has been bitten by the golf bug during the Crows' off-season, fitting in regular hits at Glenelg Golf Club on the way home from West Lakes.

Sanderson has also been named an ambassador for Glenelg, adding to a similar role with Blackwood.

And if golf is regarded by most club players as a distraction from work, the off-field distractions at Adelaide in the past month have given Sanderson good cause to hit the fairways.

"Golf is a good release from footy, to switch off and not talk or think about footy for a few hours," he said.

"With the relationship here at Glenelg, it's worked out great for me. I live just around the corner, so the golf clubs are always in the boot.

"If I can squeeze in nine holes on the way home from work in pre-season or summer, I'll do that. I love it. Golf's a bit like going to the movies, it forces you to switch off for a few hours.

"I know 18 holes takes me longer than it would for most, but it does give you something else to yell and swear at other than the players."

Sanderson, who rates Melbourne's Huntingdale and Victoria golf clubs and Thirteenth Beach south of Geelong among his favoured courses, does not hold a handicap but said he relished the personal challenge golf offered.

"I haven't got an official handicap, I've never really put enough cards in to get one," he said. "I usually just have a hit and a bit of fun.

"If I can get around under 100 I'm pretty happy. Between 90 and 100 is a good day at the office for me."

Golf SA's golf month campaign continues this week with a two-day mid-amateur championship at Links Lady Bay starting today.

The Vines of Reynella will feature a Vines Week starting on November 25 and Golf SA will stage a hole-in-one competition at North Adelaide Golf Course on November 30.
